Weighing Indicator as a Replacement Part

Replacing a weighing indicator does not always involve simply disconnecting the old unit and connecting a new one in its place. Different models may use different load cell excitation voltages, wiring arrangements, numbers of inputs, signal parameters, functions, communication interfaces and configuration methods.

Before ordering a replacement indicator, prepare the model of the existing indicator, a photo of its nameplate, a photo of the terminals or wiring diagram, and information about the number and type of load cells. This helps reduce the risk of purchasing equipment that is incompatible with the existing scale.

Weighing Indicator Calibration

A new weighing indicator is not ready for accurate weighing simply after mechanical installation and connection of the wiring. During configuration, parameters such as weighing capacity, scale interval, zero settings and the relationship between the signal generated by the load cells and the corresponding weight value must be set correctly.

Weighing indicator calibration is an additional paid service. It should be performed using the complete final weighing system and appropriate mass standards. Programming the indicator without connecting it to the specific weighing platform does not guarantee correct weighing results.

Applications of Weighing Indicators

Weighing indicators can be used in simple warehouse scales, platform scales and advanced industrial weighing systems integrated with automation and peripheral equipment.

Key Functions of Weighing Indicators

Basic models provide functions such as zeroing, taring, weight stabilisation and accumulation. More advanced versions may offer piece counting, price calculation, animal weighing, checkweighing, relay control, printing of weighing results and data transmission to a computer or higher-level control system.

Communication Interfaces

Depending on the version, a weighing indicator may be equipped with RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth or other communication interfaces. The presence of a particular interface alone does not guarantee compatibility with the software being used. The communication protocol and transmitted data format must also be verified.

Indicators for Legally Verified Weighing Instruments

Selected models may have OIML documentation or may be intended for use in weighing instruments subject to conformity assessment or subsequent verification. However, purchasing such an indicator does not automatically make the complete weighing instrument legally verified.

Whether a weighing instrument can legally be used for commercial transactions depends on the complete scale construction, load cells, metrological parameters, documentation and the correct conformity assessment or verification procedure.

Installing a Weighing Indicator

Customers purchasing a weighing indicator as a replacement part or as a component of a new weighing system should have the appropriate technical competence to perform the installation or have the equipment installed by qualified service personnel.

Incorrect connection of power supply wiring, load cells, relays or communication interfaces may damage the weighing indicator or other components of the scale. Damage resulting from incorrect installation does not constitute a defect of the replacement part itself.
